Three ways to listen online:

Today in our world…

Hour 1 – Super Duper Tuesday
  • Primary Election talk - are you ready to vote?  what’s going on here in Massachusetts?  and hey, wasn’t there a voting recount in New Hampshire?  what happened with that?  do you know what electile dysfunction* is?
  • Tony Schinella, news editor, journalist, radio host, and publisher of Politizine.com will join us again from New Hampshire to give us an update on election happenings from his unique vantage point – living in New Hampshire and editing a newspaper in Massachusetts – he’s got the goods on everything politics!
Hour 2 – Kenya – What the heck is going on?
  • Until January, did you ever think much about Kenya?  If you did, you might have thought it was stable, the economic engine of east Africa, and an ally of the U.S.   Then, bam, an election was held and all hell broke out.  Horrible things happened, too terrible to imagine.  Hundreds of people killed, in some cases even children were burned alive.  Two opposition politicians have been killed.  Kofi Annan was sent in.  The African Union is involved.
  • James Otieno will be joining us from California to help sort through it all.  James is from Kenya, East Africa and has made Santa Clara, California his home for the past 23 years.  He recently retired from Hewlett-Packard Company as Vice President, Executive Compensation and Services at the age of 47 so he can focus on Kenya and other developing countries to find ways to help them grow and prosper.

James has over twenty years of experience in executive compensation, board of director compensation, general compensation, benefits and human resources.  He has many years of experience advising, consulting and working directly with boards and executive management in matters regarding governance, total rewards, talent recruitment and retention.  In addition, James is an advisor/mentor to many aspiring college and university students from Kenya and provides financial support to a number of them.James has traveled to Kenya repeatedly for most of his life, and his career at Hewlett Packard has taken him throughout the globe.  He is in a unique position to shed some light on this tragic, and important, time in Kenya’s and our history.

I came upon this music video on http://www.kenyangospel.com/ that was put together by artists and pastors in Kenya as an anthem to stop the violence:

From the website:

“The video has already received over 15,000 views within 3 weeks on YouTube and has been on the top 3 videos in the 30,000 strong Kenya Network on Facebook. The song was written and recorded by award-winning producer Robert “R-Kay” Kamanzi at his Moja Entertainment studios and the video was shot and edited by Sakata Music. It features dozens of Kenyan Artistes and pastors….

We appeal to the Kenyan people for calm and restraint and as Zaidi ya Mziki’s Lena ably puts it, “Hata kama tutazozana, haimanishi tunakosana!” (Even if we don’t agree, it doesn’t mean we won’t get along). Download the video and the mp3 for only $5.99 and all proceeds go to Wakenya Pamoja to help victims of the post-election violence. View pics of the making of the video…”

What a contrast – pictures of machetes in all the media vs. a video of pastors and musicians singing about getting along – why isn’t this in the media?  And, what do Kenyans think?

* Electile dysfunction – the inability to get aroused by any of the Presidential candidates (note: Repubs seem to be suffering from this much more than Dems this year)
