How Giuliani helps fulfill God’s prophecy, according to Robertson

Were you surprised to learn that Pat Robertson had endorsed Rudy Giuliani?  I was.  I read all these articles about what unlikely bedfellows they were:

Giuliani: has had three wives, he dressed in women’s clothing, he’s supported keeping abortion legal….

Robertson: within 48 hours of the attacks on 9/11, Robertson agreed with guest Jerry Falwell when he said that feminists, abortionists, and gay people (among others) were to blame.

To refresh your memory, have a listen:

How splendid.

So, how does this relate to Giuliani?  Well, here’s what Robertson said about why he’s endorsing Giuliani:

“Robertson said Wednesday he set aside his differences with Giuliani on issues such as abortion because he believes that fighting the war against terrorists is more urgent.

“‘To me, the overriding issue before the American people is the defense of our population from the bloodlust of Islamic terrorists,’ Robertson said. ‘We need a leader with a bold vision who is not afraid to tackle the challenges ahead.’”

So, it has to do with the terrorists.  So, what’s Robertson’s interest in Islamic terrorists?  And does he have any other perspectives on what’s going on in the Middle East that are salient?

Well, not surprisingly, he does!  It turns out that the Iraq war is the liberation of Babylon, which is part of God’s prophecy.  It’s a little confusing, but the bottom line is that our occupation of Iraq (Babylon) was dreamed by Nebuchadnezzar and thus the fulfillment of God’s prophecy. So, what does Pat think is going to happen?  Here’s what he says:

“Let’s look at the Scripture from the Book of the prophet Zechariah, which I think is extremely significant: ‘For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem. The city shall be taken, the houses rifled and the women ravished. Half of the city shall go into captivity, but the remnant of the people shall not be cut off from the city.’

See that? ‘I will gather all nations – all nations’ – what does it say? – ‘against Jerusalem.’ Now the thing about this road map that is so significant, it is vague about the status of Jerusalem, but it makes it clear that the Palestinians want half of it.

That’s going to be the final battle. There is no battle of Armageddon, ladies and gentlemen. There is none. The Bible does not tell us there’s a battle of Armageddon. The final battle is going to be Jerusalem. And all of the nations – UN, EU – the European Union, Russia and the USA – the so-called quartet – are going to be moving in power against the Jews to force them into an untenable peace. “

To learn more about evangelical Christians and the power they have accumulated, check out this piece by Bill Moyers where he writes more about the convergence of corporate, political and the religious right, led by “a president who, in his own disdain for science, reason and knowledge, is the most powerful fundamentalist in American history.”

So, Robertson believes that Giuliani is the one MOST LIKELY to facilitate this final battle in Jerusalem, which Robertson believes is God’s will.

Well, I think he might be right.
