On the radio: diversity, 17 children, angry men & women, SAT’s and more

Sam will be co-hosting with Todd Feinburg on his nationally syndicated weekend show on Sunday, August 5, 2007 from 1-4 EDT.  You can stream the show live here.

Angry men get ahead while angry women penalized: study – A man who gets angry at work may well be admired for it but a woman who shows anger in the workplace is liable to be seen as “out of control” and incompetent, according to a new study presented on Friday.  Well, obviously, this is nothing to get upset about….

The downside of diversity - Racial and ethnic diversity are linked to lower civic engagement by a liberal researcher.  However, it also leads to greater productivity and innovation.  This is the diversity paradox.  What does it mean for America and the world?

Arkansas couple welcomes 17th child - the Duggar family just had their 17th child.  The oldest is less than 18 years old.  Their family website is here, and video of the family can be found on the Discovery Health site here.

Some doctors refuse services for religious reasons – but only to some patients – not others.  The issue, it turns out, is not the procedure.  It’s whether they approve of your behavior.  So, a doctor who was treating a women for 11 months found out she was gay, he refused to artificially inseminate her.  In other words, if she were straight, he would have had no problem.  How do we accommodate physicians religious beliefs with the rights of patients?

Time to scrap the SAT sez Mr. Bell Curve himself – Mr. Smartipants, who assumed his own SAT scores (which obviously proved him to be so smart) took him from his ‘podunk Iowa high school’ to Harvard, now says the scores don’t add any information that can’t be gained from high school grades and achievement tests.  Were your scores consistent with your grades?  Better?  Worse?
